Working for NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is the best move I have ever made job wise. Other marketing roles are quite standard; NHSBT is unusual and specific. It’s a really different role to get your teeth into.
I look after a region in the West of England, marketing blood donation to new and existing donors so that any available appointments on these sessions are filled and meet targets. I do this using a range of tools – press releases, posters, social media and recruitment events in public spaces, higher education and companies.
Once a month, I go along to a blood donation session to catch up with the blood collection team and build relations. I also speak to donors to help them gain a better understanding of our services.

It’s nice to see the whole process from donor enrolment through to attending a donor recognition ceremony to receive their 100 donations milestone award. We always invite a blood recipient speaker to attend these ceremonies who will tell their moving story about how blood donors have helped to save their life. This helps to complete the donation cycle for our donors.
There are lots of in-house training and development opportunities at NHSBT. We’re encouraged to develop continuously. I have gained qualifications working here that I can take anywhere, and they have helped me improve in my current role. I was really proud when my region overachieved. It gave me a boost to know I’d not only helped my region to exceed it’s target but also helped to save and improve lives.
